Event Description:

On January 31, 2025, Haritima – The Environmental Awareness Society of Hansraj College organized an engaging Speaker Session on the occasion of Wetlands Day. The event, held at the Multi-Purpose Hall (C-Block), revolved around the theme “Reviving Wetlands: Community and Conservation Efforts” and featured Professor Suresh Babu, Director of the Centre for Urban Ecology and Sustainability (Ambedkar University), as the distinguished speaker.  

The session was gracefully anchored by Priya and Mantasha, who set the tone for the event with a warm welcome. The gathering was honored by the presence of Dr. Monika Koul, Convener of Haritima, along with dedicated committee members.  

Taking center stage, Professor Suresh Babu shared compelling stories from his experiences with wetlands, illustrating the remarkable transformation of several degraded areas through wetland restoration. He emphasized the ecological and socio-economic significance of wetlands, urging collective efforts from communities, policymakers, and environmentalists to protect these crucial ecosystems. His insights shed light on sustainable conservation strategies and the urgent need for proactive wetland management.  

Following his address, the session transitioned into an engaging interactive discussion, where students and faculty members posed insightful questions. Professor Babu patiently responded, offering practical solutions and inspiring the audience to contribute actively to environmental restoration efforts.  

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Raj Shekhar and Dr Monika Kaul, acknowledging the contributions of Professor Suresh Babu and all committee members. The event not only deepened the participants’ understanding of wetland conservation but also reinforced Haritima’s commitment to driving environmental awareness and action.  

This speaker session served as a significant platform for fostering dialogue on ecological restoration, leaving attendees inspired to champion the cause of wetland preservation in their communities.
