The campus of Hansraj College, University of Delhi, already recognized for its environmental commitment, took another big stride toward advocating animal welfare by organizing the “Wildlife Fiesta: A Rally for Animal Protection” on 4th October 2024. This event was organized by Haritima, the Environment Society of Hansraj College, in collaboration with Mercy For Animals (MFA), an international organization promoting animal welfare in India for over a decade.

The rally was graced by Niharika Kapoor, Public Policy Professional and Lawyer, as the guest of
honor, alongside Prof. Rama, Principal of Hansraj College. The event was a collective effort aimed at
raising awareness about the cruelty faced by animals, advocating for the adoption of veganism, and
promoting the protection of farm animals from inhumane practices.

The rally began at Gate No. 1 of Hansraj College and proceeded through several key locations on the North Campus of Delhi University, including Kirori Mal College, the Delhi School of Economics, Faculty of Management Studies, Arts Faculty, and the Law Faculty, before concluding back at Hansraj College.

Throughout the rally, students from Hansraj College, especially members of the Haritima Society, held banners and chanted powerful slogans like:

“Hansraj ki yehi pukaar, janwaron pe na ho atyachaar” (Hansraj’s call is to end cruelty to animals)

“Go vegan, go Haritima” 

“Ab hamne ye thana hai, jeevo ko bachana hai” (We have decided that we will save animals)

These slogans captured the students’ passion for animal rights and their firm stance against animal cruelty. The rally emphasized the need for adopting a cruelty-free, vegan lifestyle and standing up for the voiceless animals.

The event not only underscored Hansraj College’s dedication to environmental and animal welfare but also amplified the global movement of being a voice for the voiceless. It fostered a sense of compassion, responsibility, and collective action among the participants and the public, marking a significant step in the journey towards a more humane and sustainable world.
